There are advantages and disadvantages to having
an off-campus course. The disadvantages are probably obvious:
isolation, lack of direct instruction, etc. The advantages are:
working from home, doing it on your own time and mostly not being
influenced by other students imagery/work. You are forced to work
independently and on your own.
The program involves a significant time
commitment. In my opinion it would be impossible to do the program as
outlined while working full time or working part time and caring for
young children simultaneously. However, the instructors are very
understanding and flexible, so that if someone want to take longer to
complete the program or just take some courses, that is usually
permitted. A friend of mine in Twine, who signed up for the
course one year after I did, has found it impossible to complete the
full second year course load while working as a realtor. The program
director has been very flexible in allowing her to take some missed
courses at another time.
The cost of the program depends upon the hours
enrolled. A full load is approx. $1500.00 US per academic year. This
isn't cheap, but it is not as much as US art schools would be either.
If you are interested contact Cathy Hoffman at the
above email address. Also, keep in mind that the academic year runs
from early February to mid-November. This is because of the fact that
their summer occurs during our winter.
