Course Structure
The suggested sequence of subjects are listed
below (taken from my current school documents)
Year 1:
1. Tapestry 1 - provides basic knowledge of
tapestry weaving
2. Color Applications - understanding and applying
color theory
3. Textile Design and Development - Textile repeat
systems, pattern, shape and 3D design development
4. Tapestry Design - Investigate and apply
different ways of designing tapestries
5. Contemporary Art and Design - Analyze
contemporary art/design including: public art, hybrid art, multimedia
and computer generated art.
Year 2:
1. Tapestry 2 - further build on basic weaving
techniques with special reference to historical weaving
2. Drawing - create sketches and drawings from
both observation and conceptualization.
3. Textile Technology - Dyeing and fiber facts
4. Occupational Health and Safety -identify,
assess and control chemical, physical, psychological and biological
hazards in the work environment.
Year 3:
1. Tapestry 3 (part 1) - a variety of approaches
to tapestry weaving are explored including commissions, interpretive
weaving and development of personal imagery.
2. Painting - provides basic skills, knowledge and
attitudes required to produce paintings. Later in the year students are
encouraged to develop personal images in keeping with his (:) personal
philosophy.
3. Historical Tapestry Studies - Research and
critically appraise tapestry design and production within a broad
historical, cultural and artistic framework.
