And then there were the Memorial Tapestries.
I can't wait to see the finished piece. There were so many
beautiful ones there. I need to look at the web page to connect
names with images. The variety was amazing and the colors were so
refreshing. It seems to be a critical aspect of dealing with
horrific events to present the issue in a palatable way. Several
were very innovative. Thanks Monique for bringing
them.”
Ruth Manning --
'This symposium was an interesting event for me also and I look forward
to reflecting a bit in the quiet of my studio this weekend. Connections
abounded and faces were put to email. Our own Kathe Todd-Hooker played
the role of super salesman and sold many CD's and catalogues to us
eager participants. It was an interesting ATB show; we were treated to
a catered dinner sitting among the tapestries right in the gallery. It
created a wonderful contrast in focus - the Metropolitan show had been
discussed earlier in the day (those scholars are an interesting bunch!)
and now we had a chance to look closely at contemporary work. The
speakers were very well sequenced, created a flow of thought that
seemed natural - Mary Lane did do a marvelous job. I, on the other
hand, have had no offers from major networks to host a Tapestry
Weaver's Talk Show, despite Jan's plug. May we all (especially me) keep
weaving.....and reconnecting.”
