News

American Tapestry Alliance has recruited new volunteers who are helping to make the internal organization a stronger and more pro-active one.  Christine Laffer is the new Resources Group Director. Christine has served on several boards, including the Textile Arts Council of the De Young Museum, San Francisco, and the South Bay Area Women's Caucus for Art. She held the position of Gallery Coordinator at WORKS/San Jose, a non-profit alternative art space.  Her job will be to develop plans for the future and raise the profile for American Tapestry Alliance in the art world.  As we look ahead, we want to add new members to our dynamic team.

Ellen Ramsey is our new Membership Chairperson.  Ellen was the former Membership and Annual Giving Manager at the Seattle Art Museum.  As we push to move ATA to a professional level, her experience will be invaluable in expanding our membership to include collectors, curators, and art galleries.  The new membership roster has been sent out.  If you did not receive one, please contact her.  Ellen has also offered to be the volunteer contact.  If you have special skills in fundraising, promotion, and graphic design, please let her know. We would also like to introduce Marian Bradley as the new Editor of ATA's quarterly Newsletter. She worked for AT&T as a tech writer/editor and Project Manager for many years until recent retirement. We are looking forward to her help and expertise in developing our online newsletter.  She will be planning a thematic focus for each issue so please offer her your ideas. MarianBradley@attbi.com

The Future

Plans for ATB5 are well underway. Monique Lehman, Exhibitions Chair, has invited three jurors to participate and we are pleased that they include a textile curator, an architect, and a scholar/weaver. The deadline for submissions will be Nov. 2003. For more information see the application form.  It will open in Denver in 2004 and two more venues being arranged. If you would like to get involved please contact Monique. lehman@artcenter.edu
