Terri Stewart's Statement

I enjoy weaving in different themes but never to the point where I have exhausted the choices of imagery, which allows me the freedom to revisit that theme and add to it. I have started working in 3-D starting mostly with shaped pieces with two examples below. The Yin/Yang Dragons is functional in two ways; as a fireplace screen or as a headboard for a double bed. Bamboo can be displayed at any angle since the mounting for this is a disk in the center of the piece.

A relative of mine lived in China for 25 years and many objects from her home are now in mine. This obviously has influenced a new theme of Oriental work. Although some may consider this to be cliché, I am enjoying the journey nonetheless.

Terri Stewart's Biography

I began weaving in 1993 by following a self-teaching video. Since that time I have taken several tapestry workshops and now teach on a local and national basis. My style of imagery is realism but not photo-realistic. I belong to ATA, HGA, TAOS (Tapestry Artists of Sarasota) and a past President of TWS. Most of my commissioned pieces are in private collections. My work has appeared in local galleries, national and international exhibits. I have won several awards including First Place in HGA's Small Expressions 2008.
