Lynn Mayne's Statement

In recent years nature is my inspiration for what I weave.  In Florida, and in MIchigan during the summer, I am continually delighted with the birds, plants, and insects that come into view or cross my path.  I like to weave images of this fauna and flora larger than life to give them importance and to generate interest in small things.  Like Georgia O'Keeefe, "I'll (paint) it big and they will be surprised into taking time to look at it."  Sometimes dragonflies seem to be everywhere and they flit across my line of sight as I walk or bike and they hitch rides on my kayak. Unassuming pitcher plants in a bog in northern Michigan were so colorful and unexpected on close inspection that they demanded consideration for subject matter.   The luna moth is a natural for emphasis among flying things as it is one of the largest and most beautiful moths and increasingly rare in my experience.

I delight in the seemingly endless source for artistic inspiration of the natural world.  I'm concerned about the balance of wildlife and ecosystems and have come to appreciate how interdependent everything is on our planet.
